Theo Time - 4 months

Theo turns 4 months old this week - it is hard to imagine! He has gotten so big - we don't have his 4 month checkup until mid-July, but he is out of all his 3 month clothes and feels heftier every morning when I get him. Luckily, he hasn't lost a follicle of hair.

He is still being very kind and rocking an awesome sleep schedule, so I really can't complain.

He is smiling a lot and loves hanging out under his jungle gym - sometimes with company:

 We've also figured out he takes great naps in the Bob stroller, but sometimes he's just awake and happy to be noticed!
(They call him the newscaster at work because of his hair!!)

He had his first solo playdate - Abigail, who is 2 months old, came to play with her mom Lauren for my birthday! Here is a shot of the first friends:

Finally, Theo and I did a day trip to visit my grams a few weeks ago. She's recovering from a rough go, but Theo totally cheered her up and wouldn't let go of her hand. An amazing woman who now counts 2 children, 2 children-in-law, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Pretty amazing!!

Sophia & The ducklings....

Sophia loves the book "Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey. She goes on jags of having us read it and she essentially has the book memorized, so she often "reads along" with us.

Last weekend, we decided it was a perfect time to take her to visit them in the Boston Garden. We had gone before, but the meaning didn't really sink in. Here are some shots and a video of her adventure with the ducklings! The whole walk down Charles Street (we traced their path from Mt. Vernon to Charles to the Garden" she kept saying, "Quack Quack - Mrs. Mallard!"

3 months of Theo

Theo turned 3 months on Monday. It's hard to believe that 3 months have gone by already, but life has been going full-tilt, so I can't be that surprised.
He is still a happy, wonderful little guy. He is becoming more interactive every day. We recently brought up the jungle playmat for him and he loves it, fascinated by everything hanging down and able to be touched.
Sophia insists on climbing under with him - it's very humorous. She's still really good with him, though her favorite complaint is that "He Licked Me" to which I respond "his tongue is only 1/4" out of his mouth...I'm thinking you were too close to his face!"

He's cooing and "talking" up a storm and getting bigger by the day. He's moved into the medium sized gDiapers and we've rotated out a bunch of his clothing.

2.5 years old...time flies!

Last week, Sophia turned 2.5 years old. Somehow, this seems like quite a momentous occasion. It is amazing the difference that 6 months makes in someone of this size. She's lost her baby fat and is growing tall and somewhat slender.

While I realize this is a publicly viewed blog, please know that my goal is to capture and record her milestones, not to brag about her accomplishments.

Her verbal skills have grown by leaps and bounds. When she is comfortable, she is just a chatty cathy..though in a group, she tends to hang back a bit until she is comfortable. She still loves playing by herself, especially with her little figurine animals or her Micky & Pooh bear figures.

•  If you ask her who her favorite Red Sox player is, she'll promptly respond: Saltalamacchia.
• She also knows how to spell her name & how to spell Mickey Mouse (with a little MI...prompting). 
• She's all over counting (she can make it up to 30 - thank you Whole Foods for all thost steps to count!)
• Her favorite song is "Twinkle Twinkle" which we sing to her at bedtime every night. (Sidenote, there is a mysterious 2nd verse that one of her books has pointed out..we're working on learning it).

We moved her to a big girl bed two weeks ago, as she had climbed out of her Pack n Play in Newport (walking in to the room in the morning was like going to the zoo and the animals were out of their habitats!) The transition to big girl bed has gone remarkably well. She loves her Mickey Sheets and sleeping bag. We're going to have to think of a warm weather solution to the sleeping bag, as she is waking up sweating during the hotter evenings. We also have it so she knows not to climb out of her bed. She still hollers for us in the morning - we're really hoping this keeps up.

She has taken the corner on walking distances too - she can walk close to a mile now - and walking is usually comprised of a combination run and stutter step. The one thing I love is that she always stops to smell the flowers.

Our little girl is growing up - a healthy balance of smart, silly, happy tom boy and girly girl!

Mother's Day Weekend

It was a wonderful Mother's Day weekend - the weather was sunny, warm and dry for the first time in over a week. We aimed to spend as much time outside as possible.
We're still navigating the new nap schedule with Theo (i.e. having to hang inside a bit more than we're used to) but luckily yesterday's activity included a birthday party in the yard. So Theo slept inside his crib and we hung in the backyard.  I have a feeling that will be our M.O. for most of the summer.

We finally got Sophia her new balance bike. She was very excited to see it: 

But sadly, even though she put her helmet and glasses on, she had no interest in riding it.

That's ok...we'll get there.

The morning was all about cheering her baby brother on with tummy time. Once they finished, he just stared in admiration:

 On Sunday morning, we ran the M.O.M's 5k road race. There was a 1k race for kids that Sophia & her friend Frances did. All the kids got finisher ribbons.  Here's Sophia running:

After the kids finished their race, Dave loaded them into the double stroller and raced with them. Morgan & I got to run on our own and Mark (Morgan's husband) hung with Theo. It was a win for all - Dave came in first in the stroller division, Morgan & I got to be runners for 30 minutes and Mark got to sit and hang out.  Everyone had a blast!

2 months of Theo

It's hard to believe that my little lion man is 2 months old now (well, by the time I'm actually getting around to writing this, it's closer to 10 weeks, but hey...)

He continues to embrace a low key, happy attitude. He eats and sleeps well (so well, in fact, that I'm quite afraid to talk about it for fearing of jinxing it!)

At his two month check up the doctor was so pleased with his growth - both height and weight. He left the hospital a little peanut, losing over 1lb from when he was born till check out. He has more than made up for that and is growing big and strong - almost out of 3 month clothes.

He is interacting so much more now and staying awake for longer periods of time. The cooing and smiling is going on in full force which is one of the most rewarding parts of motherhood. The hair is still in full effect (see two-month picture below) and from the looks of it, isn't going anywhere. I've actually had random bald men stop me and gawk in envy :)

We're putting the finishing touches on his room this weekend - decorations, including a fun mobile that our wonderful friend Karen made him (she made a similar one for Sophia) and wall decals. Pictures to come on the next blog entry.


He is still coming to work with me on Wednesdays and is quite the hit of the office. It actually proves to be one of the most unproductive days for me - not because of him, but because of all my co-workers coming in to visit. My favorite is when they stand there, watching him sleep until he wakes up. He actually gets lots of hugs and love there, so it's a win for everyone.

A parting shot - because it all comes back to the hair. This is a rare, post-bath, non greasy shot.

Growing up fast

The past 7 weeks since having Theo have flown by. Being back to work, I think, makes the time go by even faster. Though I get spend 5 out of 7 days a week with Theo, he still grows and changes so much that it's tough to keep up. I have to say that he is sleeping like a champ. We're still just rolling with day time naps, but (for fear of jinxing it) his nighttime schedule (for now) is he gets nursed to sleep between 8p & 9p and I don't hear from him again until around 4am. Sometimes he goes back down around 5, allowing me an additional hour of sleep. Other times, he'll just kind of hang out and I can at least catch 45 minutes before it's into the shower and ready for work.

Then there is Sophia who constantly seems like a 10 year old in comparison. She is running up a storm and loves telling you exactly what she's thinking - colors, how many things are in front of her (3 kitties, 2 bicycles, etc) and is actually getting really good at telling left and right. I credit Dave for this, which is funny, as often he'll take a left while driving after I've told him to go right! :)

Three big things that happened this week with the kids this week. The first is that Theo started to smile on a regular basis. Here's a shot of my happy little guy:
 

Second, with Theo, is that we moved his bassinet into his room this week. It actually happened on Tuesday (a really hot day). Our room was very sunny and hot, so Lidiana moved him into his room to be cooler. We decided it made sense to just leave him there. And it did. He slept the same as did I and I was still able to hear him. It was a win-win for all. 

The other is that Sophia climbed out of her pack and play. When I went in to get her this morning (we're down in Newport) there she was. Standing. By the rocking chair. Now we knew she had been getting too big for it and even at home, had talked about transitioning her to a big girl bed in the next few weeks to free up the crib for Theo. But clearly, as we spend more time in Newport (necessitating the Pack n Play or other travel bed set up) this transition needs to happen. So the big girl bed will get ordered this weekend and we'll tackle the transition over the next week or two. I guarantee that will provide some excellent blog fodder!

Theo will be 2 months old next week. I'll make sure to post after his check up, but I can tell you that both kids are happy, healthy and (most of the time! :) truly a joy to be around.
